On August 23, 1999, I learned I had diabetes. Diabetes is when part of the body doesn’t work (make enough insulin), so I don’t get what I need from food. I got very sick and had to go to the hospital.
God took care of me in lots of ways. He gave me my mom and dad, who noticed changes in me. He gave me a really good doctor to treat my diabetes. He gave me lots of nice nurses and a good dietician.
My friends and family came to visit me at the hospital. While I was there, my brothers were invited to play at their friend’s house. Friends from our church and neighborhood brought food, and some cleaned our house. God even provided a big friendly dog dressed up as a clown to visit me and make me happier.
I have to get insulin shots two times a day and check my blood sugar four to seven times a day by pricking my finger. I also have to follow my meal plan and get exercise. This is all good stuff from God. If I didn’t have the insulin or learn about diabetes while I was in the hospital, I would feel really sick, get really shaky or have to go back to the hospital.
My sickness has made me feel closer to God, and I talk to Him a lot more.
