November 23, 2001, was just like a normal day for my family and me. My dad went to his job, and my sisters were getting ready to go to work. My younger sister, Briana, was sitting on the couch watching TV, when all of a sudden she stood up and said, "I feel like my throat is swelling up." We took her into the kitchen, and my mom tried to get her to take Benadryl, but she couldn’t swallow it.
My mom was debating whether she should take her to the doctor’s or not. We live in the country, so it takes about 20 minutes to get to the closest doctor. Mom finally decided it would be best to take her in.
When they arrived, Briana got two shots. The doctor said she could have died. It turned out that she is allergic to Brazil nuts. The doctor said she should stay away from all nuts for a while. We were all very thankful that God saved Briana’s life the day after Thanksgiving.
