I was born in Brazil and live here as a missionary. November 29, 2002, started as an ordinary day—I was doing my schoolwork. At 11:25 a.m., the phone rang. I raced to answer it; it was a panicky voice telling my mom to call the police to go to the Project Amazon offices where my dad works as an administrator and accountant.
My mom called the police, but the only number she knew was busy. We began to pray for God’s protection on my daddy and his office workers.
On this day, two men with guns entered my daddy’s office. One wore a mask and the other had a cap on. The masked man pointed a gun at my dad and asked for money.
“What money?” my dad said. The men kept demanding money. Soon my dad took out his billfold and gave them all the money he had, which was about $50. They continued asking for more money. My dad didn’t have any reais (Brazilian currency).
Daddy got down on his knees, lifted his hands up and said the name of Jesus four or five times. Soon the men left and told my dad to stay back. My dad saw them run up the road to where a motorcycle was waiting for them. The police did come, but it was too late to catch the men.
When my dad came home for lunch that day, he told us the whole story, and we prayed and thanked God together. When I hugged my dad, I was so happy the Lord gave him wisdom and protected him. My dad said he never was scared through the whole thing but felt God’s peace and presence. I know God hears and answers my prayers, and I’ll continue to pray for my dad and the Mission.
