Last June I went on a missions trip to Romania with my
dad. It took us 17 hours on a plane to get there!
Romania is a very poor country. The poorest people
are the Gypsies. We visited a new one-room church
that missionaries had just built for the Gypsies. I met a
boy named Abel, who had lost one of his eyes to
cancer. He told me in broken English that he was not
allowed to go to school because he wasn't perfect like
the other kids. It made me very sad. He said a church
was going to pay for him to get a glass eye. Then he
might be able to go to school.
At several villages my team handed out socks and
shoes to the children. At the first village, the Gypsies
were very excited about the shoes. One teenage boy
had large feet, and the biggest pair of shoes we had
was three sizes too small. We told the boy we didn't
have any shoes for him, and he started crying. Then he
grabbed the biggest pair we had and jammed them on
his feet!
On a different day, we met a man walking along a dirt
road. His face lit up when we told him about God's love
for him, and the man accepted Jesus as his Savior.
I often think and pray about the people I met in
Romania. Please pray for the Gypsies. They have a
hard life. I never knew how rich my family was until that
trip. Going on a missions trip is a wonderful experience
where you can really see God working. God is waiting
for willing boys and girls to step out and minister to
others!
