Toasty Oat Bars

3 1/2 cups regular oatmeal
1 cup sunflower seeds
1 cup chocolate chips
2/3 cup melted butter
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/3 cup honey or molasses
1/2 teaspoon vanilla


1. To toast oats, spread oatmeal on a cookie sheet or large baking pan. Bake at 350° F for 12 to 15 minutes or until lightly browned. Stir occasionally. Remove oats from oven and allow to cool.
2. Mix all ingredients in a large bowl using a wooden spoon.
3. Press the mixture in a well-greased 9-by-13-inch pan.
4. Bake at 350° for 15 to 20 minutes.
5. Cool pan on a wire rack. Cut bars when cool.
6. Substitute different kinds of chips, nuts or raisins to discover your favorite flavor!
