Take the Plunge

This summer, Adventures in Odyssey Clubhouse wants you to Take the Plunge! Dive into your faith and grow to be a stronger, wiser and more loving person.

This year's challenge is 5 times the fun!

Part One—Commit Your Way

Nothing's better for your brain than memorizing God's Word. Start with the Take the Plunge theme verse: “Commit your way to the LORD; trust in Him, and He will act.” —Psalm 37:5

Then memorize 5 other Bible verses.

Part Two—Get Moving

A strong body will help you serve the Lord. Stay active this summer, and get your family involved, too. Grab a parent, your siblings or even a grandparent and exercise together 5 times.

Take the plunge into a swimming pool. Visit a park, go for a hike or hop on your bikes.

Part Three—Show God's Love

When you know Jesus, others can see the difference He's made in your life. Bravely share your faith with 5 people.

Invite a friend to church camp or vacation Bible school. Bake cookies for neighbors and include a Bible verse. Tell someone about Jesus. Serve those in need. You can spread the Good News in so many ways.

Part Four—Look Back

As you complete the challenge, keep track of your activities:
- Which verses did you memorize?
- Who did you exercise with, and what did you do?
- How did you share God's love?

Once you've finished, write a short essay (around 250 words) about how this challenge impacted you. What happened when you took the plunge? Did you help people? Did God help you grow?

Part Five—Picture This

Attach a photo of yourself completing the challenge (exercising with your family, serving others or reading your Bible). We’ll publish some of our favorite photos and stories in Clubhouse!

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it matter which Bible translation I use?

Nope. If you or your parents prefer a certain version, use it. We just want you to dive into God's Word.

Which 5 verses should I memorize?

It's up to you. If you're already memorizing Scripture for VBS, AWANA or the Bible Bee, that's great.

If you're just getting started, maybe you could learn verses about salvation (Romans 3:23, Romans 6:23, Romans 5:8, Romans 10:9, Romans 8:1) or a classic passage (1 Corinthians 13; Psalm 23). If you're looking for something easy, try John 11:35 (it's only two words).

How do I prove that I've memorized the verses?

You could send us a video of yourself reciting verses blindfolded—just kidding! We suggest reciting them to your parents or a Sunday school teacher. Don't rush it; let the verses really sink in. Twenty years later, they might still be nestled in your heart.

How long do I have to exercise?

Shoot for at least 30 minutes each time, and you should only count one activity per day. Make it fun! Play games with your siblings, or go on a hike with your grandparents.

Does ______ activity count as exercise?

Let your parents decide. The goal is for you to be active this summer, whatever that means for your fitness level.

Can I exercise with a friend instead of my family?

Sorry, we're not called "Focus on the Friend." We really want you to spend time with your family this summer.

What if I'm too scared to tell someone about Jesus?

There are lots of ways to show God's love to others. If you're too scared to use words, use actions. Help an elderly neighbor with yard work. Volunteer to work in your church's nursery. Make care packets for people who beg in the streets. Raise money for a missionary.

But at least once this summer, you should try to talk about Jesus. Your pastor can advise you, and your parents can help you practice. Part of "taking the plunge" is conquering your fear and standing up for your faith. As Paul says in Romans 1:16, "I am not ashamed of the Gospel."

Do I have to use the downloadable activity form?

We'd prefer it. There are lots of pieces to this year's challenge, and it's easy to lose track. If you decide to make your own list, be sure to include your first and last name, birth date and full address on the page so we know where to send your prize.

What's the prize?

You'll find out soon. Prizes should go out in October (not October 1st... please give us a few weeks).

Why is this challenge called Take the Plunge?
